- WordPress joined forces with Drupal and Joomla to launch the Open Website Alliance at FOSDEM 2024. The alliance emerged from the Inter-CMS Working Group, that advocated for changes in the EU’s Cyber Resilience Act. This collaboration is crucial for the future of open web, amid growing technology regulation.
- WordPress 6.5 will integrate the Interactivity API, a unified framework for creating interactive elements on websites. This will allow real-time updates, data sharing, and innovative features without page reloads. The Interactivity API will also improve accessibility and user experience on WordPress websites.
- WooCommerce released versions 8.6 and 8.6.1, offering more customization, engagement, and campaign insights for store owners. Features include new styles and layouts, log file browser, besides performance improvements.

- Open-source initiatives continue to advance AI. Microsoft and Mistral AI partnered to debut Mistral Large on Azure, while Google introduced Gemma, a family of lightweight AI models. These follow Kong’s AI Gateway for building multi-LLM apps, and Apple’s MGIE image editing model, besides Meta’s Code Llama 70B.
- Netflix engineering team released SafeTest, that takes a new approach to frontend testing. SafeTest combines elements of unit testing, E2E testing, and dependency injection. The open-source library offers improvements in reliability, maintainability, and debugging during the QA process.
- The United States government announced the formation of US AI Safety Institute Consortium (AISIC), which aims to ensure safe and responsible AI development. This first-of-its-kind consortium boasts over 200 members, including tech giants, research labs, civil society organizations, and academic teams.
