The rtMedia development team has been involved in a fair deal of activity since the major 3.0 release earlier this month. We have put up a number of minor releases over the last two weeks.

This post highlights the key improvements that were brought about during this period.

Version 3.0.1

  • Minor bug fixes were included in this release.

Version 3.0.2

  • The lightbox option was improved for photos.
  • An option was included to disable albums altogether.

Version 3.0.3

  • The template system was improved.
  • Issues with audio/video uploads and featured media were fixed.
  • Duplication of posts in activity feeds was eliminated.

Version 3.0.4

  • Users’ activity feeds were stopped from displaying information on deleted media items.
  • A count was included for the like button for media.
  • Earlier, the BuddyPress tab was shown in rtMedia’s backend settings even if BuddyPress was not installed; this was fixed.
  • Image resizing was improved to reflect correct ratios and prevent disproportionate resizing.

Version 3.0.5

  • An issue with users being able to override privacy settings for uploaded media was fixed. Administrators can choose to disable this user overriding so that users cannot change visibility of media from the frontend.
  • New formats including .gif and .mov were allowed for uploading media.
  • The grid in photo galleries was removed. Users can specify the sizes of thumbnails for galleries, or have them set by the theme’s CSS.
  • Issues with rtMedia’s templates were fixed. These templates allow customization of rtMedia.

Version 3.0.6

  • The issue of group admins being unable to assign permissions for other users was fixed.
  • A fix was applied to ensure that control returns to the Media tab of BuddyPress after elements are deleted.
  • The issue of the lightbox closing after people were tagged this was fixed.

Version 3.0.7

  • There used to be an issue with the rewrite rules due to which a 404 page would appear on clicking the media tab. This was fixed in 3.0.7. Now, users have to purge their permalink settings in WordPress to make sure the 404 does not appear again.
  • A fix was applied to the issue of comments failing to appear when the lightbox would be opened.

Version 3.0.8

  • The code that handles the gallery and upload shortcode was improved.
  • The next button in the lightbox was stopped from causing media elements to incorrectly reappear.
  • The issue of uploaded media being attached only to a default album was fixed.

Version 3.0.9

  • A count was included for media elements.
  • An issue with featured images in templates was fixed.

Version 3.0.10

  • A dashboard widget was included. This allows site administrators to obtain a quick view of statistics related to rtMedia.
  • The uploader was made more mobile friendly.
