Gutenberg vs Elementor: SEO considerations
Both Gutenberg and Elementor support standard SEO practices, but the way they render content and manage page weight directly impacts performance, and, by extension, search rankings.
Gutenberg has the edge by default due to its lighter footprint and deeper WordPress core integration. Elementor can match that, but with effort.
We’ve worked with both Gutenberg and Elementor and have secured similar SEO standards with each. It comes down to how you’re setting them up. In general, while Gutenberg typically results in better Core Web Vitals scores by default, Elementor can be optimized just as well.
That said, if you’re leaning toward Elementor, there are a few SEO-specific trade-offs worth noting and optimizing for.
- Heavier DOM and additional scripts: Elementor injects its own styles and scripts, sometimes leading to bloated page weight and slower performance.
- Granular control comes with trade-offs: More visual freedom often means more frontend processing and resource usage.
- Optimization required: Performance tuning (e.g., removing unused CSS/JS, enabling lazy loading, server caching, etc.) is essential to keep Elementor sites SEO-competitive.
But remember all these can be optimized with the right configuration.
In the end, both builders can support high-performing, SEO-friendly sites (if the setup is intentional).
