WordPress 6.5 “Regina” is here! This marks the 30th version in succession with core contributions from rtCamp.

We express our gratitude to dedicated rtCampers for their invaluable efforts – David Levine, Hit Bhalodia, Hrithik Dalal, Juhi Saxena, Lovekesh Kumar, Nirav Sherasiya, Pooja Killekar and Utsav Patel. 👏

Key Updates and New Features

On the Gutenberg side of things, WordPress 6.5 introduces the Fonts Library– users can now manage fonts directly through the editor and use Google Fonts while staying GDPR compliant. The new Interactivity API makes it easier for developers to create interactive front-end experiences for blocks by establishing a standard. The site editor UI has been updated to match the appearance and behavior of the post editor UI.

Among other updates, the WordPress Media Library now supports AVIF, a modern, open-source image format that features 50% smaller file sizes compared to JPEGs at the same image quality. The new Plugin Dependencies feature makes the process of installing and activating interdependent plugins consistent and easy. Performant Translations, the plugin that makes translated sites load faster, has been merged into core
