Breakthrough for Cox Automotive Brands with OnePress

A unified vision for a better digital experience

Cox Automotive, a leader in the automotive industry, wanted to create a more connected and efficient digital presence across its many brands. With eight different websites operating separately, they needed a way to bring everything together, simplify content management, and ensure brand consistency. To achieve this, they partnered with rtCamp, combining Cox Automotive’s vision with rtCamp’s expertise in scalable WordPress solutions.

Building the foundation for a centralized system

Cox Automotive, in collaboration with rtCamp and EPAM design agency, designed and implemented a structured digital consolidation strategy. The goal was not just to unify the brand experience but to make content creation simpler and more efficient while keeping each brand’s unique look and feel.

At the center of this transformation was the Cox Design Library, a centralized repository of reusable Gutenberg blocks, patterns, and custom post types (CPTs). Built using React and custom REST APIs, this allowed editors to quickly create pages with pre-built elements, maintaining consistency across brands while still allowing each brand to customize colors and styles to fit its identity.

To simplify content workflows, Cox Automotive centralized blog posts and articles in a Content Hub, allowing teams to publish content once and distribute it across multiple sites. Meanwhile, service landing pages and campaign pages were managed directly on brand sites, using the Design Library to ensure a consistent structure across the ecosystem.

Executing a smooth transition without disruptions

Delivering a unified experience across multiple brand websites required careful planning to avoid disruptions. As envisioned by Cox, rtCamp introduced a modular plugin architecture that standardized key functionalities while allowing brands to maintain autonomy.

To ensure a smooth transition, rtCamp followed testing protocols combining automated and manual testing across all sites, preventing inconsistencies before launch. A key challenge was integrating legacy systems, such as custom forms, CRM tools, and analytics platforms (Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, etc.). rtCamp ensured that these critical workflows remained fully operational while being optimized for the new platform.

Additionally, media assets were consolidated within the Content Hub, reducing duplication and improving accessibility across all brand sites. Plans are in place to introduce a Digital Asset Management (DAM) system to further enhance content handling in the future.

The results: A faster, more scalable digital experience

Through this collective collaboration, the impact was significant:

  • 103% increase in visitor engagement
  • 100% more lead conversions
  • 21% faster website performance
  • A streamlined content workflow, enabling teams to manage content across multiple sites with ease
  • Improved brand consistency, increasing website commonality from 2% to 50%

By leveraging both custom and out-of-the-box WordPress solutions, Cox Automotive launched seven large websites within 12 months with each launch reusing up to 70-80% of designs, layouts, and plugins- cutting development efforts significantly, reducing cost per brand, and accelerating its digital transformation.

This project showcased the power of a well-planned multi-brand digital strategy. Cox Automotive’s recognition of this success led to a Webby Award submission.
