Q. What is Kaltura? Is it essential?
A. Kaltura provides open-source video platform which is essential for “video uploading” feature. Without Kaltura partner ID or Kaltura-CE you cannot use this media component.
Q. What about YouTube? Why its not supported?
A. When we started this project, YouTube support was there in Kaltura itself. Over the time YouTube support has been removed by Kaltura as mentioned here.
In 2-3 months we will be releasing a new version of this addon which will have YouTube support. As this is open-source project, we really cannot afford to speed up its development beyond certain limits.
Q. What is difference between Kaltura.com and Kaltua-CE?
A. Kaltura.com is like wordpress.com. You can create an account for free with some limitations.
Kaltura-CE is like installing wordpress on your server. As its your server, you have freedom to do just anything.
Another thing with Kaltura-CE is that all files will be stored on your server. Just a privacy concern many users show.
Q. Where can I get Kaltura Partner ID?
A. You can get a Kaltura Partner-ID by signing up here for free. This Partner-ID, email address and password should be used to complete installation of this plugin.
Q. How many Partner-ID I will be needing for my community?
A. You will require only one Partner-ID. Your members need not know anything about Kaltura. Also you can use same Kaltura Partner-ID elsewhere.
Q. Where to insert Partner-ID to make this component work ?
A. After activating BuddyPress media component, go to BuddyPress Menu >> Kaltura Settings menu. Enter your Partner-ID, email address and password. Your users will be able to start uploading photos, videos and audios instantly.
