WordPress Contributions

rtCamp’s WordPress roots extend back to the success it had with a popular technical blog started in 2006. WordPress’ open community and culture paved the way to start rtCamp.

Since its inception, rtCamp has only worked on WordPress, while encouraging every rtCamper to contribute back to WordPress core and community.

WordPress Core

At rtCamp, we have a strong tradition of contributing to the core development of WordPress. We have a WordPress core contribution from an rtCamper for every single WordPress release since version 3.6, right up to the latest version 6.6. Our contributions’ span for 31 consecutive versions, ensuring the platform’s growth and stability.

Five for the Future

At rtCamp, we have signed up for the “Five for the Future” initiative. We try to contribute 5% of our resources to the WordPress project. This commitment underscores our dedication to the growth and sustainability of the WordPress project.

WordCamps

rtCamp has actively participated in WordCamps. Our team has enjoyed connecting with the WordPress community over the years. rtCampers have spoken at WordCamps and participated in sessions, sharing their insights. Additionally, we have sponsored over 15 local and international WordCamps. Our contributions also extend to several WordPress-related projects and Kickstarter campaigns in the past.

Local WordPress meetups

As we are based out of Pune and have two offices in the city, we are often venue sponsors for local WordPress meetups. Apart from logistics, many rtCampers take part and contribute to local meetups by organizing, attending and speaking.

Translation

rtCampers are active polyglots, helping in the translation of WordPress to English, Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, Nepali, Urdu and Bangla. Additionally, our in-house General Translation Editors for Hindi and Gujarati approved over 500 translations. Our efforts have helped expand the reach of WordPress to more users around the globe.

Mentoring, education & training

We encourage students and trainees to contribute to the WordPress core and other open source projects wherever possible.

We launched our revamped WordPress development course under a CC0 license, making it freely available to the community, and for anyone willing to build a career in WordPress development. Contributing to the WordPress is a part of our training program.

Rahul is part of an official committee that gives inputs for engineering curriculum at COEP – one of India’s most reputed engineering institutes. He actively advocates the inclusion of open-source and WordPress in education.

As part of our educational initiative to promote open-source, Alberto Medina from Google engaged students in discussions on WordPress and the Creator Economy. Our HR team earned recognition at the National HR Excellence Award Summit 2024. We hosted industrial visit for engineering students, focusing on WordPress and opportunities in open-source.

Alumni

The community-oriented culture at rtCamp fosters a love for WordPress and open-source that remains with rtCampers throughout their professional and personal lives. rtCampers, both past and present, are regular contributors to the WordPress ecosystem. They have to their credit core contributions, theme reviews, translations, in addition to being attendees, speakers and organizers at WordCamps and meetups in the cities they live in.

Plugins & themes

Other contributions & projects

EasyEngine is a command line script designed to simplify the management of multiple WordPress sites powered by the Nginx web server. Developed in PHP and utilizing Docker, EasyEngine can run on any OS platform that supports PHP and Docker. Visit its repo and blog to know more.

rtMedia enhances the social experience on BuddyPress, bbPress, and WordPress websites by providing media upload and management features. The core features of rtMedia are available for free in the WordPress plugin directory. 

WordPress Plugin Compare (WPPC) is a community tool to help WordPress users find the most appropriate plugins for their site. Over the years, we observed that exploring, comparing, and selecting the best plugin can be a meticulous process. WPPC aims to simplify this process and help users make informed decisions.

Frappe-Manager allows effortless creation and management of local Frappe installations with a single command. Frappe apps, like ERPNext and HRMS, can be specified through command line parameters. Built with Python, Frappe-Manager uses Bench and Docker containers to set up the environment. Checkout its repo here.
